Canada’s current cellular network is supported by approximately 33,000 macro towers over 200 feet tall.
the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) estimates a 5G rollout will require many
more precisely located small cell sites, an estimated 273,000, that will cover areas of only 50 to 100 feet in
diameter and will be affixed to lamp posts and utility poles. The CWTA said they still have not settled on a
suitable permitting process to streamline their installation.
